How to Plan Epic Brand Photoshoots: A 4-Step Guide

Brand photographers, if you want to level up your business, you’ve come to the right place! In past weeks, I’ve shared some of my insider tips, such as how to capture variety at your shoots and how to pick the best indoor session locations. Now, this week, I’m diving into the most important aspect of personal brand photography: planning the sessions. So, here is my guide on how to plan epic brand photoshoots and effectively communicate with your clients!

4-Step Guide to Plan Epic Brand Photoshoots Every Time

1. Start with an initial inquiry call

Before booking a client, I always start with an inquiry call. I use this initial call to talk with potential clients about their brand photography needs. Also, this call ensures we’re on the same page from the start. This way, the brand and I can be sure I’m a good fit and that I’ll be able to capture what they need.

2. Follow up with a questionnaire and welcome guide

As soon as a brand books me, I send them my welcome guide and a questionnaire to help get their wheels turning about the upcoming session. A good welcome guide should offer clients more detail than your website about what to expect, what to wear, and how to prepare for the shoot. Then, the questionnaire is an excellent opportunity to get to know the brand. Ask about their business goals and their goals for the shoot, and have them share any inspiration they’ve collected.

This step is essential if you truly want to plan epic brand photoshoots because it eases your clients into the planning process before you get into details on the strategy call. You’ll be able to offer well-thought-out suggestions and address specific concerns right from the start. The more information you can collect here, the more effective your strategy session will be.

3. Hammer out details with a strategy call

Next, I schedule a call with my clients to discuss the logistics of their shoot. First, I check if we’re on the same page about the brand’s image needs and how they want to use their photos. Then, we get into specific details such as props, location, wardrobe, and hair and makeup.

4. Send a prep guide before the shoot

After the strategy call, I use my own brand photographer’s planning template to put together everything I’ve learned and discussed with the brand. I lay out an exact plan for the session day. Then, I share that plan with the client so we can all show up ready to shoot!

And that is my step-by-step guide on how to plan epic brand photoshoots every time. I hope these tips help you grow as a brand photographer!
